Question 17 of 30
Can a GP arrange care for someone at home?
A GP can raise concerns and refer someone for help, but they do not directly arrange ongoing care at home. The responsibility usually sits with the local council's adult social care team. If a GP believes someone needs support, they can recommend or request a care needs assessment, which is the starting point for getting care in place. In urgent situations, a GP may help trigger short-term support or involve community health teams, but longer-term care still goes through the council process.

If you need care quickly, contacting the council directly is usually faster than waiting on a GP referral.
